Body and Soul

Body And Soul

Oh broken heart there at my feet,
Will you never learn?
Oh loving spirit deep within,
Must you ever yearn?

Brave small hope, how many times
Can you lay out your trust?
When time and time it is betrayed,
Yet try again you must.

Oh fragile flame, you flare and wane,
Yet outwardly glow strong.
Courageous mask that hides my soul,
You have endured so long.

Can misery crack you, fragile shell,
Expose the tender part?
Or harden you until no one
Can ever touch our heart.

Oh firm resolve, can we bear up?
Together can we cope?
Or breaking, scatter to the wind,
Fragments, devoid of hope.
